Why Healthcare Quality Is An Issue

Is quality a concern in the American healthcare system? Until recent years, the general public was confident that the US had the best healthcare system in the world, and therefore that the quality of care was the best it could be.

The US healthcare system has the technological and scientific expertise to deliver top-notch care. However, the 21st century began with increasing concern that the system falls short in many areas.

Three specific categories of problems have received the most attention:

Underuse of beneficial services
Overuse of procedures that are not medically necessary
Objectives Mistakes leading to patient injury
