Care Journals

Newly redesigned Care Journal

You spoke and we listened! We have redesigned the 30 day Care Journal so that hospitals and healthcare institutions can make it theirs by placing their logo/branding/messaging front and center on the cover of the Care Journal. This is about YOUR message to YOUR patients. The Josie King Foundation is here to help you make that message more meaningful.

Hospitals and healthcare institutions can place their logo/message on the front cover or can choose not to. The 30 day Care Journal remains the same – beautiful and tasteful, with or without the hospital branded label.

The movement toward an even better patient experience is catching fire at health systems across the country. Providing tools like the Care Journal is one way patients and their families can keep thoughts, questions, and goals for care in one place, and refer to them easily. Care Journals – the why?

Remembering back to her first days at Johns Hopkins, Sorrel knew there was a need to create a tool to allow patients and their loved ones to record important details of the hospitalization. The 30 Day Care Journals grew out of this experience and were launched in 2007.

A few years later, JKF realized that there was a need for a journal for patients and families who were in the hospital for a shorter length of stay and so we created the Care Journal mini.

The mini covers seven (7) days of hospitalization and is smaller – the perfect size to tuck into your pocket.

Both Care Journals can be customized with hospital logo/branding/messaging which can be placed on the front cover of the 30 day Care Journal and the back cover of the Care Journal mini.

Hundreds of hospitals and healthcare institutions have partnered with the Josie King Foundation by implementing the Care Journal program at their institution.

In July 2013, The Journal of Nursing Care Quality published an article called: Implementation of the Josie King Care Journal in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit: A Quality Improvement Project written by a team of medical specialists.

“The Care Journal is a tool developed by the Josie King Foundation to promote interactive exchange among providers and patients/families. The Care Journal was implemented in a pediatric intensive care unit, and surveys were administered to assess perceptions about use.” Read the full JNCQ article
